Follow these steps and instructions to found out the reasons why your iPhone cannot charge! Note: If you have tried all these methods and your device still won’t charge, don’t waste your time and scroll to the bottom of this page.
1. Do a Hard Reset
For iPhone 6S, 6 Plus, SE and older models:
Press and hold the power button (also known as the Sleep/Wake button) and the Home button (the circular button below the display) together for at least 10 seconds.
For the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, you perform a hard reset by pressing and holding the volume down button and the power button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
If you have an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, follow these steps to perform a hard reset:
- Hold the volume up button (quickly press and release)
- Quickly press and release the volume down button
- Press and hold the side button (power button) until the Apple logo appears, then let go.
2. Check your lightning cable for damage
Check for damages on your lightning cable or Apple cable. If you notice visible damages such as scratches or wears, it’s probably time for a brand new Apple cable for your iPhone or iPad.
However, if after getting a new cable and your device still doesn’t charge, the problem with your device is definitely the charging port (Read point #4).
3. Try using an original Apple cable
One of the most common reasons why an iPhone won’t charge comes from low-quality 3rd-party iPhone charger. Always remember to use an original and certified Apple cable!!
4. Remove debris or dirt out of your iPhone’s charging port
Use a flashlight and take a close look at the charging port in the bottom of your iPhone. If you see any debris or gunk in there, it might be preventing the lightning cable from making a solid connection to your iPhone. Grab a toothbrush (one you’ve never used before) and gently brush out your iPhone’s charging port. If doing this still doesn’t work, there is definitely something wrong with your device’s charging port, and it’s best if you drop by our iPhone repair store to get your iPhone’s charging port replaced! Same goes to your iPad if you’re experiencing a similar problem.
IF YOU HAVE ATTEMPTED ALL STEPS AND YOUR IPHONE CANNOT CHARGE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE, PLEASE BRING YOUR APPLE DEVICE TO OUR REPAIR CENTRE, BECAUSE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH YOUR DEVICE’S CHARGING DOCK/PORT.
